Gender Equality. Lesson plan for High School Students

Dyskutujaca paraWhile the world has achieved progress towards gender equality  and women’s empowerment under the Millennium Development Goals (including equal access to primary education between girls and boys), women and girls continue to suffer discrimination and violence in every part of the world.

“Gender mainstreaming is the (re)organisation, improvement, development and evaluation of policy processes, so that a gender equality perspective is incorporated in all policies at all levels at all stages, by the actors involved in policy-making.”

When properly understood and implemented, gender mainstreaming is a transformative approach with a great potential for social change. Today, there is a wide consensus about the effectiveness of adual approach combining gender mainstreaming and specific measures for the advancement of women, to ensure better policy making and better use of resources, as well as progress towards effective equality between women and men. Even if the understanding and implementation of agender mainstreaming strategy – including gender budgeting, gender-based analysis and gender impact assessment – amongst policy and decision-makers needs to be improved, the last decade has witnessed significant developments.

Objetives:

  • To acknowledge students for gender equality;
  • To identify and understand further obstacles that women face in access to full political participation and association.
  • To awareness men to the importance of the issues of gender equality in politics, association and dailylife;
  • To encourage balanced participation of men and women in various aspects of local development in all spheres of life;
  • To define the ways of influencing public policy on gender equality issues.
